Public Space. Why?

I have decided to chose the third question, which is “what should designers consider when making something for public space, or a gathering of a community”.

I’ve chosen this question because I would like to explore how I designer goes through the process of making something for a public space such as how they have to respond to the environment, what the people are like and why are they making it. I’m interested how these thoughts play into how they choose to design, because these are all very necessary questions the designer needs to ask themselves, as its all nice to create something that looks great but if its not having any impact of its community is it really achieving what its trying to say?

I want to research how the designer should respond to their surroundings and enquire and ask questions to understand how that leads to their decision making.

One topic I would like to focus on within this question is how the design goes about creating a public space in promoting and advertising an event. I think this would be interesting to see what approaches they take in achieving this.
